2nd Draft

Red&Yellow - Yin Yang Fish 陰陽魚 2nd Draft 03.08.10

Yin and Yang are the two basic elements of the world. They are complete opposite of each other, like day and
night, warmth and coldness, man and woman, strength and tenderness, and water and fire, etc. However they
also cannot exist by themselves. They need to be together to create peace and harmony in everything. We are
to present this fundamental Asian ideology on our T-shirt.

Mo's new design, the precise message has not been defined.  However it's to present Chinese history, culture and spirit with Andy Warhol's art style.   A lot to be improved and colors need to be added, just want to upload it to the blog to share with everyone for now.

by 小元儿 / Mark

When designing, we Do Not seek for more designs and more quantity, but to create classics that we could be proud of.   Fulfilling quotas is not our job!
When marketing, we need to establish the image of high-end brand and elevate the collection's value.  We cannot lower either the price or image of the brand for the sake of selling a few more items.  Remember, having revenue does not mean the brand has a high-end image, but having a high-end image will certainly guarantee revenue.  Therefore, it should be concluded that long term brand image is much more important than short term profit.
More importantly, a design can be easily copied, but the image of high-end brand, customer loyalty as well as the company market position can not be stolen, copied or replaced.
I think many world renowned brands spend relatively smaller amount of their energy on creating, manufacturing and selling their products, but larger amount of their energy and focus on creating an brand image of luxury, customer loyalty and market position.  I think it's one of the keys to their success!
Summary: We rather not doing business if the business is only about selling mediocre products.  If we move foreward, we must look beyond the immediate profitability, and focus on building a strong brand.

Dear Visitors, do you agree?  Please leave a comment!

Flaming Lantern 火燈籠 Logo Draft Designed by Zoe

Thursday, March 4, 2010 by 小元儿 / Mark
Flaming Lantern logo has always been difficult for us to design, but Zoe from Zoe Shops NYC @ BlogSpot.Com helped us to create the below graphics.  Please let us know if you like them or not!

The Name, Flaming Lantern:
Let the Ancient Light Illuminate Your Path!
Lantern is an ancient lighting device that was unique to the Asian culture.  It is an universal symbol of guiding light for Asian people who had to journey through the darkness of the nights.  It illuminates people's path with warmth and gentle light.   Flame on the other hand, projects passion, relentless determination, hope and power.   Combining the two, we have a stunning yet meaningful image of a powerful, wild and passionate light that illuminates the paths of Asian people in this world of change, uncertainty and as well as exciting opportunities.  Let the ancient wisdom and cultural roots strengthen you and guide you!  Let the Ancient Light Illuminate Your Path!!!

Wednesday, March 3, 2010 by 小元儿 / Mark
To people who have dreams and go after them with determination and passion, I admire;
To people who have no dreams but are happy and satisfied with their lives, I envy;
To people who talk about dreams, but sit on their hands and whine all day, I despise!!!
Go after your dreams and leave no room for regrets!!!

T-Shirt不簡單: A Lesson on Textile Printing

by 小元儿 / Mark
Most people think making T-shirts is quite easy, but the fact of the matter is, there is so much to know, learn and master before you can bring out a decent product.  Even learning the types of printing methods and their pros/cons is tedious and time-consuming 。A lesson on textile printing: "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia".

Textile printing is the process of applying colour to fabric in definite patterns or designs. In properly printed fabrics the colour is bonded with the fiber, so as to resist washing and friction. Textile printing is related to dyeing but, whereas in dyeing proper the whole fabric is uniformly covered with one colour, in printing one or more colours are applied to it in certain parts only, and in sharply defined patterns.

(Design for a hand woodblock printed textile, showing the complexity of the blocks used to make repeating patterns. Evenlode by William Morris, 1883. )

In printing, wooden blocks, stencils, engraved plates, rollers, or silkscreens are used to place colours on the fabric. Colourants used in printing contain dyes thickened to prevent the colour from spreading by capillary attraction beyond the limits of the pattern or design.
Traditional textile printing techniques may be broadly categorised into four styles:

3rd Draft - Design 1
Yellow River is the ancient birth place of Chinese civilization! It gives life and hope to millions and millions of people, generation after generation! It flows with power, grace and determination through our history! It is truly one of the most recognized symbols of China which we want to proudly illustrate in our creation!!!
This is from the Red&Yellow Collection: Yellow River 黃河. We believe it will make it into our first collection with only a few tweaks and additions. Mo, once again, made our envision into an amazing reality. He is unstoppable!!!
Who could tell the design was based on the shape/map of Yellow River with the first look? Please leave a comment.
